The General Directorate of Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) has collaborated with the Association of Spanish Footballers (AFE) to uphold betting integrity in Spain. The partnership integrates AFE into the Global Research Service, enhancing the monitoring and analysis of sports betting activities.
AFE is now empowered to access detailed data flows, enabling the association to report any suspicious betting patterns on various sporting events. The initiative aligns with Law 13/2011, which regulates gaming in Spain, accentuating the commitment to combating fraud and preventing the manipulation of sports competitions.
Spain is working hard to maintain fairness in the sports betting industry. In a recent report, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs underlined DGOJ's commitment by mentioning the imposition of fines of €71 million on 30 online gambling enterprises for regulatory violations in the first half of 2023. 14 of the operators, most of whom were based in Curaçao, were subject to severe fines and a two-year suspension for their offences. The remaining fines ranged from €25,000 to €105,000, representing a variety of noncompliance issues, and were imposed on operators in accordance with Spanish regulations.
