FanDuel, a major player in the sportsbook industry, is poised to take over from D.C.-based GambetDC as the sole platform available to players in the city, according to a letter from the Lotteries and Gaming Authority of the region. The letter, however, does not specify the exact launch date for FanDuel's web properties.
Intralot, under contract with Colombian authorities, had attempted to introduce the competitive bookmaker GambetDC. However, the platform incurred losses of $4 million in 2021. The regulatory approval for Intralot to choose FanDuel as a new subcontractor for the sports betting platform is confirmed in the letter.
The transition to FanDuel is expected to enhance the player experience and drive substantial revenue growth. Once FanDuel takes over, the regulator will be relieved of operating expenses of up to $4 million annually, as the office will independently handle payment processing, promotions, and marketing.
