Minnesota lawmakers have disappointed sports bettors by failing to pass a measure that would have legalized sports betting. Instead of focusing on negotiations for sports betting, the legislative session was overshadowed by the arrest of a senator and heated disputes among members of parliament.
The Senate's inability to address the sports betting issue has sparked criticism from advocates of legalization. Minority Leader Mark Johnson expressed dissatisfaction with lawmakers for not discussing or advancing the sports betting bill.
As a result, Minnesota now joins the ranks of states that failed to legalize sports betting in 2024. Previously, industry stakeholders had high hopes for Minnesota, Missouri, Alabama, and Georgia to enact sports betting legislation, but none of these states were successful in doing so.
