The Sports Betting Commission has approved a second set of rules, detailing requirements for betting operators in areas such as advertising and responsible gambling.
What are these rules?
- Betting operators cannot use terms like "risk-free" and "free" in any promotional activities. Additionally, all marketing in colleges and universities is prohibited to prevent associations with educational institutions.
- Bookmakers are prohibited from purchasing or entering into copyright agreements regarding the naming rights of sports facilities.
- Operators must submit a comprehensive plan to the regulator to address gambling problems, including voluntary and compulsory self-exclusion measures.
- Any cash bets over $10,000 can only be processed with the player's identification and proper documentation from the operator.
The launch of a regulated betting market in North Carolina, as provided by bill HB 347, is expected in 2024.
