In the first six months of its operation, BetStop's self-exclusion system has been used by over 18,000 Australians, primarily comprised of young individuals. The majority of users opting to block their access to gambling, either temporarily or permanently, are under 40 years old.
According to the government, the minimum exclusion period for betting or creating an account on online casino sites is three months. Approximately one-third of those enrolled in the system have chosen a lifelong exclusion from various forms of gambling.
Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth expressed satisfaction with the system, highlighting its success in surpassing expectations. She emphasized the significance of introducing self-exclusion measures into the Australian gambling landscape. The government conducted over 8 billion real-time ledger checks to assess the system's resilience to BetStop account requests.
