A former professional tennis player and a sports official have been penalised by the International Tennis Integrity Agency for their involvement in betting on sports. Both individuals acknowledged violating the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program by placing bets on tennis matches.
David Gorsic, a former member of the Slovenian national team, received a six-month suspension and a $5,000 fine for his actions between 2017 and 2018.
Stephen Nguyen, an Australian official, was found to have placed bets while officiating matches from 2021 to 2023. As a result, Nguyen has been banned from officiating for three months and must pay a $2,000 fine.
The ITIA has prohibited both Gorsic and Nguyen from participating in any ITIA-sanctioned tennis events.
This crackdown on betting violations follows recent lifetime bans for another official, Armando Belardi. He was charged with 26 violations.
Also in May, another Italian player Emanuele Bastia was suspended for four months and two weeks for betting on tennis.
