According to Flutter Entertainment, the betting volume for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics has more than tripled in comparison to the last Games. Analysts attribute this surge in bets to the expanding legalisation of sports betting in various regions; for instance, 23 states in the U.S. now permit legal sports betting, whereas only 10 states allowed it during the Tokyo Olympics.
Flutter's analysis reveals that basketball comprised 63% of all bets placed for Paris 2024, up from 40% during the previous Games. Furthermore, the total value of bets via FanDuel nearly doubled. Overall, Flutter provided betting options across more than 30 sports and over 320 individual events.
The analysts noted that the Paris 2024 Games featured many compelling narratives that attracted broader interest, drawing in viewers who typically do not engage with sports. Notably, Paris 2024 marked the first Olympics with an equal number of male and female athletes, which contributed to Flutter's findings that 24% of all Olympic bets placed through FanDuel were for women's events.
