Tribes Advocate for Legalization of Sports Betting in Colorado

During Ute Day at the State Capitol, representatives from the Mountain Ute and Southern Ute tribes urged Colorado officials to honor commitments to legalize sports betting in the state.

Southern Ute Tribe Chairman Melvin J. Baker highlighted Colorado's complex history with tribal governments, marked by broken promises and treaty disregard. Over the years, both tribes have diligently worked to reverse this trend.

Despite assurances from the governor that addressing the sports betting issue is a political priority, progress on the matter has been lacking, according to Baker. The Ute representatives have engaged in discussions with state officials, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling promises and creating a framework for legalized sports betting in Colorado.
