The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) has imposed a ban on Tabcorp, a prominent Australian bookmaker, preventing them from accepting cash bets on the majority of their electronic terminals in the state of Victoria.
The regulatory decision was prompted by revelations that Tabcorp had failed to enforce age restrictions, allowing minors access to betting terminals. Approximately 70% of Tabcorp's 1,800 devices in the state are affected by this restriction. To use a terminal situated more than 5 meters from the reception desk, patrons must purchase a voucher in advance and provide proof of age during the purchase.
To ensure compliance with age verification requirements, the VGCCC has mandated bookmakers, including Tabcorp, to implement a mystery shopping scheme. In the event of further violations, the commission has warned of substantial fines. Tabcorp, established in Melbourne in 1994, is Australia's largest gaming and betting company, employing over 5,000 people.
