The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) recently ordered the blocking of three additional gambling websites in the country due to violations of the Interactive Gambling Act.
This brings the total number of sanctioned sites close to one thousand, with Big Candy, Jackpoty, and John Vegas casinos being the latest to face restrictions. Internet providers in Australia are now obligated to enforce the blocking of these websites.
These three websites provide online casino gaming options for players. The ACMA cautions consumers about the lack of customer protection when using illegal gambling services, which puts Australian users at risk of losing money. Blocking access to websites is one method used to safeguard Australians from unauthorised gambling activities.
Since November 2019, the ACMA has successfully taken down 995 gambling sites, including A Big Candy, Jackpoty, and John Vegas Casino.
Last month, the regulator pointed to a group of eight sites: Jogi Casino, Dundee Slots, Lucky Hunter, Lucky Wins, Lukki Casino, Spin Fever, Clubhouse Casino and Winport Casino. And soon they were all found to be violating the rules, and their sites were blocked.
However, the ACMA's wrath is not limited to small companies. Late last year, Entain-owned Ladbrokes and Neds, as well as Hillside's Bet365 and Sportsbet, were criticized by the ACMA for breaking betting rules.
