A major casino scandal is breaking out in the US

A scandal has surfaced in North Carolina involving alleged "donations" to a campaign for a casino project, implicating top state legislators and local officials.

Former Rockingham County Commissioner Craig Travis has filed a lawsuit accusing these officials of corruption, political manipulation, and violating campaign finance laws to push through the casino's development.

Travis alleged that Cordish executives made contributions totalling $5,600 each to key legislators between November 2022 and January 2023, which they believe swayed legislative actions like the release of the Spectrum Gaming Group report endorsing casinos.

The former commissioner is pursuing over $100,000 in damages, claiming that false accusations and defamation led to his electoral defeat and damaged his standing. Travis contends that these untrue statements were intended to sabotage his re-election bid because of his opposition to the casino project.

If the allegations are true, they could significantly hinder any future casino projects in the state.
