Australia Urges Curacao to Cease Promotion of Online Casinos

Australia's media watchdog has issued repeated calls to authorities in the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao, urging them to cease the promotion of online casinos. According to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), these efforts are specifically targeting Australians, as an increasing number of operators blacklisted in Australia hold licenses in Curacao.

The ACMA has compiled a registry containing nearly a thousand websites, which it believes are operating in violation of Australian laws. A spokesperson for the ACMA stated that the authority has held six discussions with Curacao regulators since their initial meeting in June, where investigations into selected services licensed in Curacao were addressed. The ACMA is actively collaborating with international regulators to combat the illegal provision of services.

The June meeting was prompted by a complaint from the ACMA to Curacao's Finance Minister, Javier Silvania. The ACMA accused approximately 90 online casinos of persistently targeting Australian consumers despite warnings of legal repercussions.
