Bell Two: What happens if Star Sydney loses its licence?

As Star Entertainment awaits a decision on the investigation into Bell Two in NSW, the company faces the possibility of losing its licence for the Star Sydney casino. What would be the consequences if the licence is revoked? An investigation by the NICC, which began in February, has raised concerns about the company's suitability for licensing, following previous legal issues in early 2022 that resulted in hefty fines and conditional licensing.

NICC started Bell Two due to concerns about the progress of the restoration work. After all the hearings in the case, CEO Robbie Cook and former chairman David Foster left their posts.

If the ruling after the second investigation goes against Star, they will permanently lose their licence and access to Sydney's largest market. It is worth noting that a vacant licence can be a good asset for any global operator, since Australia has a fairly active gambling market.
