Bet365 Fined $33,000
Bet365, one of the major sports betting and gaming operators in the United States, has received a fine from New Jersey authorities for allegedly accepting wagers on events that had already concluded, in violation of state regulations. The company has been penalised with a $33,000 fine after the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) discovered that Bet365 took bets on a completed mixed martial arts match, despite subsequently listing a replay of the event in its bookmaker offerings.
Mary Jo Flaherty, the interim director of the DGE, stated that Bet365 acted promptly to address the identified issues, which contributed to the relatively modest fine. The funds from the penalty will be allocated to the revenue division of the DGE.
This is not the first incident involving fines for Bet365; about a month ago, the operator had to pay $519,000 to players for changing its odds without prior notification to the regulator. Although the DGE recognised that the operator could adjust the odds, a spokesperson emphasised that such changes must be pre-approved by the regulatory body.
In lighter news, Bet365 is enhancing its brand presence by becoming a sponsor of the UEFA Champions League, marking the first instance of a betting company partnering with the prestigious tournament. This sponsorship will allow the Bet365 brand to be featured on stadium LED screens, media backdrops, and UEFA’s online platforms.
