BetMGM CEO Addresses Tribal Involvement in California's Online Sports Betting Regulation

BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt emphasized the importance of cooperation between California's First Nations and authorities in the regulation of online sports betting. He acknowledged the challenges of collaboration in California due to numerous powerful groups involved.

Greenblatt, speaking at the NEXT Summit New York 2024, stressed that the key to unlocking online sports betting in California lies in partnership with tribes. He pointed out that tribes must play a crucial role as partners in the sports betting transaction for the state to progress.

Tensions between American and Indian operators in California have been strained, prompting efforts to rebuild relationships. FanDuel recently appointed former National Indian Gaming Commission Chairman E. Sequoia Simermeyer to a senior position to aid in this restoration.

In March, California authorities attempted to leverage agencies to enforce child support payments on Indian land, but the court rejected the case, stating it was unrelated to gambling laws.
