The Finnish National Police Board (NPB) has blacklisted the BML Group, a subsidiary of Betsson, making it the first gambling operator to face such a ban in Finland. Consequently, all transactions from players to the organization will be blocked, affecting all operator brands.
Betsson had previously lost a legal case against the NPB for violations of advertising and lottery laws. The company was fined €2.4 million ($2.6 million) and prohibited from promoting gambling services. The NPB concluded that Betsson had targeted players over an extended period through its marketing campaigns.
This isn't the first time Betsson has encountered such issues, as it faced a similar situation in Norway and the Netherlands in 2021. Back then, Betsson, along with several other renowned brands, withdrew from the Nordic market following changes to online gambling laws, which required operators not targeting the national market to refrain from offering services to players.
