Since the beginning of 2024, Cambodian authorities have taken robust action against illegal gambling, shutting down 300 illicit gambling sites and making approximately 500 arrests. The Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted investigations across 19 cities and provinces, resulting in criminal cases being opened against 69 of the blocked online sites, with 194 suspects involved.
Deputy Press Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Touch Sohak, revealed that among the blocked websites, one presented illegal online games, while seven were gambling applications operating on the internet with licenses outside the gambling sector.
While Cambodia strictly prohibits all forms of gambling for its citizens, the ban does not extend to foreign tourists. As of October 2015, the country had 75 casinos catering to international visitors.
