Casino Visitor with Homemade Pistol to Serve 5-Year Prison Term

A Council Bluffs resident, 56-year-old Som Bone Cam, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for bringing a homemade large-caliber pistol and drugs to a casino.

Chief U.S. District Court Judge C.J. Williams handed down the sentence, with Cam set to spend an additional three years under supervision after serving the prison term. As he will be under supervised release, parole is not legally available to him.

Cam was arrested at the Meskwaki casino in April 2022, where illegal substances and an unregistered homemade pistol were discovered in his backpack. In September 2023, he pleaded guilty to the possession of a .410 caliber smoothbore homemade pistol, a weapon described by Reddit users as a "super deadly killing machine," using lethal ammunition typically associated with shotguns.
