Casino Workers Threaten Strike Ahead of Super Bowl in Las Vegas

Several small Las Vegas casinos could face a labor strike just before the NFL Super Bowl as the city's culinary union, representing a significant portion of casino employees, has issued a strike threat for early February.

While casino operators MGM Resorts and Caesars have existing agreements with the union, Westgate, Treasure Island, and Circa Casino do not. If the issue isn't resolved, these venues might experience a staff shortage in the week leading up to the Super Bowl. The potential strike could impact nearly 8,000 casino workers across 21 gambling establishments.

The culinary union is advocating for fair wages, asserting that corporations are maximizing profits by cutting costs on employee salaries and benefits. Association secretary Ted Pappageorge stressed that although nobody desires a strike, the workers are committed to their cause.

The NFL Super Bowl is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas starting on February 11, making it a crucial event in the United States as the culmination of the NFL football season.
