Gamstop, the UK's national self-exclusion scheme, has reported a record increase in registrations for 2023, with a 9.5% rise from the previous year. Over 92,000 individuals signed up, bringing the total to more than 433,000 participants, signaling heightened awareness of gambling addiction risks.
The program saw a notable 31% surge in young adults aged 16 to 24 enrolling, especially in the second half of the year. This demographic now represents a significant portion of new registrations, emphasizing the need for targeted gambling prevention strategies among younger people.
The majority of these new registrants, over half, chose the maximum self-exclusion period of five years. Gamstop's program offers various exclusion options, including six months and one year, catering to different recovery needs.
