Eight people have been taken into custody for committing sophisticated fraud at the Cotai City casino in Macau. The plan included using fake gaming chips, which cost the casino a significant amount of money—roughly $200,000—in losses.
During a recent inspection, a casino dealer found discrepancies in 25 chips, which led to the discovery of the scam. These chips, which were initially valued at HK$100 ($13), were changed to look like HK$10,000 ($1,300) chips, resulting in a large loss for the casino.
The Judiciary Police responded quickly and took four individuals into custody at the casino. Additional offenders were identified during further inquiry.
With the help of the Zhuhai Criminal Police Detachment and the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, three important members of the criminal group in mainland China were apprehended. The arrested, all from China's mainland, acknowledged that they had been acted by a guide of a senior criminal leader. His identity is not disclosed.
