Crown Resorts Secures Continued Casino License for Sydney Property
After a rigorous three-year process of revitalization in New South Wales, Crown Resorts has received approval from the New South Wales Independent Casino Commission (NICC) to maintain its casino license for its Sydney establishment. This decision grants Crown Resorts the ability to operate its casino under an unrestricted license, marking the conclusion of a period of uncertainty spanning over three years for the company in New South Wales.
The determination follows the findings of the Bergin report in February 2021, which deemed Crown "unsuitable" to manage a casino at Barangaroo in central Sydney. The investigation, prompted by concerns of money laundering within the establishment, uncovered evidence suggesting misuse of the casino's accounts for such activities.
Furthermore, the inquiry revealed instances where Crown collaborated with tour operators suspected of having ties to organized crime, lacking sufficient due diligence. Despite these challenges, Crown Resorts has successfully navigated the regulatory landscape, securing approval to continue its operations in New South Wales after a 17-month trial period.
