Denmark Blocks 79 Illegal Gambling Sites
The Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) has taken action to block 79 unauthorised gambling websites, which were unlicensed platforms for online casinos and betting that even allowed access to minors. Emphasising its commitment to protecting young internet users, the DGA has specifically targeted sites that promote skin gambling—a practice where players use virtual currency, such as Robux from the popular game Roblox, to wager or engage in casino games.
Anders Dorf, a spokesperson for the DGA, highlighted the risks these websites pose to children, stating, "We are closely monitoring this new type of website. Roblox is immensely popular among children and teenagers under 18. As a concerned individual and father, I firmly believe that children should not be exposed to casinos and betting while playing video games. I am very pleased that we have blocked access to these sites."
In addition to shutting down unauthorised gambling websites, the DGA has proactively informed users about the dangers of illegal sites. When individuals attempt to access these sites, they are automatically redirected to a warning page that informs them of the site's illegality and the lack of safeguards typically offered by licensed operators.
With the latest round of site closures, the total number of blocked sites in 2024 will amount to 162, marking the highest annual total since the DGA began implementing sanctions in 2012. Overall, the DGA has thus far blocked a total of 438 websites.
