The Netherlands Advisory Board on Regulatory Burdens (ATR), an independent oversight body, has raised concerns regarding the necessity of proposed new regulations for online gambling. The watchdog argues that the updated requirements could pose an unnecessary technical burden for operators.
Proposed by Dutch Legal Protection Minister Frank Verwind, the new rules include monthly financial risk checks on customers' accounts for expenditures exceeding €350, as well as a mandatory loss limit of €150 for players under 24 years old. Additionally, operators would be required to ensure that trained staff engage with players individually every 30 minutes to issue cautionary warnings.
ATR has questioned whether the technical challenges associated with the proposal have been adequately addressed. The council highlights potential issues such as up to 5% of players opting to raise deposit limits to circumvent company oversight. Moreover, estimates from Kindred Group suggest that fulfilling these requirements would necessitate a significant increase in customer support staff to comply.
