Dutch Gambling Sector Surpasses One Million Accounts
The Dutch gambling landscape has reached a significant milestone, with the country's gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), reporting over a million accounts registered across various gambling operators. According to the KSA's latest online casino market monitoring report, the sector has witnessed substantial growth, with gaming revenue soaring to €1.39 billion for the year, marking a notable 28% increase compared to 2022.
Key findings from the report reveal a surge in active accounts, which now stand at 1.1 million, representing a 13% rise from the previous year. Notably, approximately a third of these profiles are utilized by 448 thousand players on a monthly basis. Furthermore, in the latter half of 2023, licensed operators recorded a total of 726 thousand registered gamers, constituting approximately 5% of the Netherlands' population.
Despite the industry's growth, concerns have been raised regarding the financial impact on players, with the report indicating an average loss of €958 per player in the second half of 2023. Of particular concern is the prevalence of young adults aged 18 to 23, who reportedly hold 22% of gaming accounts, signaling the need for heightened measures to protect vulnerable demographics.
The KSA's report underscores the evolving landscape of the Dutch gambling sector and highlights the importance of responsible gambling measures to safeguard players' interests, particularly among the younger demographic.
