The Dutch Gaming Authority (KSA) has declined a request from Woo to disclose documents containing data on suicides linked to problem gambling. According to Casino Nieuws, the search for the requested information yielded no results.
The report "Gambling with Health" by the National Rapporteur on Addictions previously provided statistics on the incidence of suicides related to gambling addiction in the Netherlands. These figures were derived from a Red-Black Ontward report that examined the costs and consequences of gambling. Notably, the overall statistics were based on Swedish studies due to the absence of similar surveys conducted in the Netherlands.
The data attracted political attention as researchers' findings were discussed during debates surrounding the Comprehensive Suicide Prevention Act. Subsequently, members of the public, including Woo, sought pertinent information from the regulator. However, the KSA stated that it did not possess the requested data.
