In Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, seven individuals, including US citizen Randall Aaron Asher, have been arrested for operating an illegal online casino. This marks the first case of the arrest of a gambling website operator in the country, according to law enforcement agencies.
The suspects, aged between 20 and 40, are accused of working for a foreign company that operates Dora Mahjong, an illicit gambling platform targeting Japanese users. Over a span of more than ten years, the arrested individuals reportedly earned $15.3 million from running the site. Investigations are ongoing to unravel the organizational structure of the platform.
According to the arrest warrant, Usher and his associates are alleged to have charged service fees while facilitating gambling for six clients on the website from March to December 2023. The American and two other suspects have reportedly admitted guilt.
