A former director of transportation operations and maintenance for the city of Toronto has been charged with involvement in an illegal gambling ring. The 55-year-old man is also facing charges of improper storage of a firearm and receiving proceeds of crime exceeding 5,000 Canadian dollars (3,700 US dollars).
Police conducted raids at multiple locations across Toronto, Vaughan, and Scarborough, where they discovered over $250,000 in cash on the ex-official, along with expensive jewelry. Additionally, illegal slot machines and weapons were seized.
The accused had a career spanning more than three decades, holding various positions at Toronto City Hall before retiring in December due to a heart condition.
