French Médiateur Advises ANJ to Tighten Measures to Prevent Gambling Addiction

Médiateur des Jeux, the French gambling intermediary, along with the gambling regulator Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), has called on operators to take stronger measures to prevent customers from engaging in excessively long or wasteful sessions at online casinos. Denis Millet, one of the mediators, emphasized that French operators are "almost systematically" ignoring advice on preventing harm or refusing to block the accounts of players who have spent too much.

Millet stated that the response should occur when a player stops responding to warning messages, avoids contact attempts by the operator, or increases deposits and bets, indicating a loss of control. Additionally, the recommendations include returning funds to players' accounts in cases of suspected fraud, canceling bets if placed on the same outcome within a short period (such as six or seven bets in ten minutes), and informing players about the blocking of accounts due to their inactivity.
