Zoe Osmond, the CEO of UK charity GambleAware, has refuted a complaint filed by the non-profit organization Good Law Project (GLP). The GLP claims that GambleAware has aligned itself with an industry that "preys on the public." The complaint criticizes the social campaign "Bet Regret," stating that it blames players for their losses in the development of gambling addiction.
Osmond asserted that GambleAware is a "completely independent" organization from the gambling industry and has consistently advocated for the regulation of gambling advertising and the implementation of a statutory funding system to hold the industry accountable.
The Charity Commission confirmed it received a complaint regarding GambleAware and stated it is "currently assessing the information available." No decision has been made following the GLP appeal.
In response to Osmond's statement, GLP head Will Prochaska expressed doubt that the organization's leadership had thoroughly read the letter, emphasizing that the complaint is based on charity law, with evidence provided for all allegations. Prochaska criticized GambleAware's claim of the complaint being 'baseless,' casting doubt on whether the trustees had actually read the letter's contents.
