The UK Gambling Commission has imposed a £6 million fine on online casino operator Gamesys for a series of breaches related to social responsibility and anti-money laundering. The regulatory action is linked to the company's conduct between November 2021 and July 2022.
Owned by Ballys Corporation, Gamesys manages 16 sites in the UK, including Ballycasino.co.uk, Doublebubblebingo.com, Jackpotjoy.com, and Megawayscasino.com. Alongside the fine, the company will undergo a third-party audit to verify the effective implementation of anti-money laundering and responsible gaming policies.
The commission outlined that Gamesys neglected to consistently assess the solvency of gamers, elevating the risk of harm associated with gambling. Additionally, the company failed to consistently adhere to deposit limitation systems, typically designed for substantial amounts. Deposits exceeding available funds could signal gambling addiction. Overall, Gamesys management appeared to operate outside responsible gaming principles, resulting in substantial fines.
