Genting Corporation, the operator of Resorts World Sentosa casino resort, is reportedly exploring the possibility of opening a casino in Thailand. The company aims to secure a license for the development of a new casino resort, intending to expand its footprint in the Southeast Asian market.
Maybank, an investment bank, has released a report suggesting that Genting Singapore, the subsidiary of Genting Corporation, may acquire land for this venture. The bank highlights Genting's successful track record in establishing similar casino resorts in South Korea. Analyst Samuel Yin Shao Yang from Maybank also speculates that another subsidiary, Genting Malaysia, could be utilized for this endeavor.
Resorts World Sentosa experienced a boost in gaming revenue in the third quarter of 2023, attributed to the return of Chinese tourists following the easing of pandemic restrictions. In a move to attract more visitors, Singapore has extended the visa-free regime for Chinese tourists by an additional 30 days.
