Germany has appointed a new Chairman of the Board of Directors of GGL

Germany has selected a new leader for the Board of Directors of GGL. Rainer Moser will assume the role of Chairman, succeeding Udo Götze. His tenure will commence on July 1, 2024, bringing with him experience from overseeing the digitalisation department at the German Ministry of the Interior.

The outgoing Chairman, Goetze, highlighted the considerable strides made by the German regulator in the previous year and expressed optimism that his successor would maintain the momentum of advancement in the industry. "GGL is in a strong position to effectively oversee the fast-growing digital market. All stakeholders should take pride in this achievement," stated the official.

In taking up his new role, Moser emphasised that “Regulating online gambling is a complex task that aims to prevent gambling addiction and protect players and young people.”

Moser is optimistic about GGL's ability to keep pace with evolving industry trends. The new chairman is confident that his experience in digitalisation gained at the Ministry will help the regulator deal with the ever-changing challenges in the field of gambling.

Under German law, officials from each of the 16 federal states that make up GGL's board of directors serve as chairman for a one-year term, rotating in alphabetical order. This system ensures equal representation of the states, which has a positive impact on gambling regulation in Germany, and forms the basis of the regulatory framework in the country.
