Globe Telecom Takes Action Against Illegal Online Gambling

In a proactive stance against illegal online gambling, Globe Telecom, a prominent telecommunications service provider in the Philippines, has significantly ramped up efforts to combat gambling addiction and associated fraudulent activities. The company reported a sharp increase in the number of prohibited domains, rising from 52 in 2021 to a staggering 4,237 in 2023, reflecting the surge in illicit gambling operations on its network. Notably, within the first quarter of 2023 alone, Globe Telecom blocked 1,345 illegal gambling sites.

To bolster its efforts, Globe Telecom invested $2.7 million in 2021 to develop a robust content filtering system aimed at detecting and preventing access to inappropriate content, including illegal gambling platforms.

Anton Bonifacio, Chief Information Security Officer at Globe, emphasized the company's commitment to its subscribers' well-being, highlighting its social responsibility to mitigate gambling addiction. He underscored the grave implications of illegal gambling sites, citing their propensity to foster fraudulent activities, particularly identity theft. Globe Telecom's proactive measures align with broader industry efforts to safeguard users and promote responsible online behavior.
