Growing Risks of Online Gambling Highlighted by Dutch Gaming Authority

Rene Jansen, the outgoing chairman of the Dutch gaming authority (KSA), has expressed concerns about the increasing risks associated with the online gambling market in the Netherlands. In a recent blog post, Jansen emphasized the growing number of individuals exhibiting problematic gambling behavior, including professional athletes.

According to Jansen, addressing specific cases of inappropriate gambling behavior is the first step towards mitigating gambling-related issues. He stressed the importance of the regulator taking a comprehensive look at the market to identify and address underlying risks.

Jansen also highlighted the role of online operators in exacerbating gambling problems, noting instances where players who have lost control are allowed to continue playing. He suggested that regulatory measures should focus on preventing such situations.

With Jansen's term set to expire in October this year, the responsibilities of KSA chairman will be assumed by Michel Groothuisen in July. It remains to be seen how the Dutch gaming authority will address the growing challenges posed by online gambling in the country under new leadership.
