The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), a prominent advocate for transparency in the betting industry, has released its 2023 Match-Fixing Report. The organization identified a total of 184 notices signaling potential match-fixing incidents based on irregular odds recognized by fans.
IBIA conducted thorough investigations for each report, resulting in the identification of 74 matches that indeed breached transparency regulations. Sanctions were imposed on the wrongdoers.
IBIA highlighted the substantial improvement in technical capabilities to detect and prevent suspicious betting activities in recent years. In 2022, 285 alerts were logged. Khalid Ali, the CEO of IBIA, emphasized the ongoing need for vigilance in the battle against sports fraud. He noted that unregulated operators in Asia pose a significant threat to transparency and security, despite progress in the fight against match-fixing.
