Iconic US casino to be blown up with drone show and fireworks
The Tropicana Hotel and Casino will be officially demolished on October 9, as announced by its owners, Bally's Corporation. This event is set to be a spectacular occasion, featuring a drone show, fireworks, and a variety of entertainment activities before the iconic property is brought down.
Bally's acquired the Tropicana in 2022 but has determined that the building is both physically and aesthetically outdated. Consequently, they have decided to tear down the existing structure to make way for a new resort that will include a casino and a Major League Baseball field.
Originally opened in the 1950s, the Tropicana was a landmark of Las Vegas before it closed its doors on April 2 of this year, coinciding with the issuance of the demolition permit. While implosions are not uncommon in Las Vegas, the Tropicana will mark the first hotel to be demolished by this method in 17 years, following the removals of the New Frontier and Stardust in 2007.
In addition to this project, Bally's is also in the process of dismantling its casino in Chicago, where plans include a new casino, a 34-story hotel with 500 rooms, a 3,000-seat theater, and a public park, with a target opening date set for September 2026.
