Indian Gaming Federation Demands “Light” Regulation of iGaming
The All India Gaming Federation (AIGF) has called for a 'soft' regulatory environment and robust support mechanisms to position India as a 'global hub for gaming innovation.' This approach is intended to help the industry significantly contribute to the country's economic and cultural growth. AIGF represents over 150 organizations within the online gaming sector.
India now boasts over 450 million online gaming enthusiasts, with pay-to-play games accounting for 83% of the industry's revenue. The AIGF also addressed the issue of illegal offshore operators and their advertising, proposing the use of verification marks to identify legal games.
Additionally, illegal gambling results in a 28% annual tax loss on $100 billion in revenue. Another estimate indicates that offshore operators receive $12 billion from Indian players, leading to a $2.5 billion loss for the treasury.
