The Indonesian government has cut off access to online gambling networks operating in Thailand and Cambodia. “Gambling sites from these two countries can no longer operate in Indonesia because we have blocked their access,” said a director general with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics.
The official stated that the goal is to disrupt the harmful cycle of regional gambling syndicates in Indonesia. He assured that the ministry will remain vigilant in uncovering and prohibiting gambling websites and applications attempting to infiltrate the country.
Nevertheless, the primary focus of the government's efforts to combat gambling is raising awareness among the populace about the dangers it poses.
“Gambling sites will go out of business on their own if no one becomes addicted to gambling or wants to bet any more,” Kansong said.
The Indonesian government has been communicating with tech giants such as Google, seeking support in filtering out gaming content within the country. However, the Indonesian official mentioned that there is no technology that can automatically detect and block certain content.
