Japanese authorities have not approved the construction of a casino resort in Nagasaki
Japanese government has declined to endorse Nagasaki Prefecture's proposal to establish an integrated casino resort. According to reports from Japanese media, the national tourism agency under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport has not granted consent for the construction.
The initiative to build an integrated resort has been under government consideration since April, following the approval of a similar project in Osaka. Experts estimate that the complex could attract 8.4 million visitors annually, generating 339 billion yen ($2.3 billion) for the region. Establishing a casino would require separate government approval and licensing.
Nagasaki authorities have identified Credit Suisse AG, CBRE, and Cantor Fitzgerald Securities Japan Co Ltd as the "financial arrangers" for the project. These are large companies with no apparent stability concerns, according to analysts. However, the Japanese government has not given the go-ahead for the construction idea.
