Korean Man Sentenced to Prison for Lottery Prediction Program Scam
In Korea, a man has been handed a one-year prison sentence for duping another individual out of hundreds of millions of won by convincing him to invest in a lottery prediction program. The South Korean court in Daechon revealed that the perpetrator, who met the victim online in 2019, presented fabricated receipts claiming to confirm victories in a lottery's first and second prizes.
The convict asserted he had developed a program capable of predicting winning combinations, showcasing a lavish lifestyle allegedly funded by lottery wins. Subsequently, he urged the victim to invest in the program, promising to purchase lottery tickets in bulk and share prize money if successful.
It was later revealed that no such program existed, and the scammer had not won any prizes. Operating under the guise of joint investments, he managed to extract a total of $178,000 from the victim between December 2019 and April 2020. During the trial, he contended that he had spent all the received money on purchasing lottery tickets.
