Macau Casino Operators Granted Exemption from Additional Tax on Gaming Profits

The Macau government has implemented a measure abolishing income tax on gaming profits for casino operators. This exemption, applicable to six concessionaires, is effective until the end of 2027. The decision, signed by the head of the regional administration, He Yicheng, is aligned with the new concession system, which involves a partnership between the state and private companies, wherein operators are taxed at 40% of casino turnover, accompanied by a fixed premium of $3.72 million payable to the Macau government by each of the six concessionaires.

In contrast, other online gambling operators not engaged in a partnership with the state will continue paying a tax of 35% of their gross income. In the first 11 months of 2023, these operators contributed MOP 60 billion through this taxation framework.
