The Macau government has reported an unprecedented number of visitors to casinos during the Lunar New Year festivities. A significant majority, 77%, arrived from mainland China, with 18% hailing from Hong Kong. The city's hotels experienced a remarkable 97% occupancy rate, and there were 3.7% more tourists compared to the corresponding pre-pandemic period in 2019.
Angela Hanley, a senior gaming and hospitality analyst at Bloomberg, noted that the daily influx of casino visitors during the holiday surpassed the tourist numbers observed during October 2023's Golden Week—a combination of holidays and weekends in East Asian countries.
Macau's casinos amassed $3 billion in February, matching the figures from 2019. In January, the gambling revenue reached $2.4 billion.
