In a major crackdown on gambling-related offenses, approximately 770 individuals have been apprehended in China's Guangdong province. The law enforcement operation, known as "Breeze 2024," was carried out under the supervision of the Department of Public Safety to address and combat illegal gambling activities.
Situated adjacent to Macau, the only Chinese territory where gambling is legally permitted, Guangdong has seen a surge in efforts to curb illicit gambling. According to reports from Chinese media, the police successfully addressed over 470 criminal cases associated with gambling, including actions against online casinos engaged in the distribution of card games.
Law enforcement authorities highlighted that, in mid-January, 24 illegal casinos operating in Guangdong were shut down, leading to the arrest of 544 suspects as part of the operation.
It's important to note that gambling is strictly prohibited in China, except for in Macau, and the sole form of authorized gambling in the country is the national lottery.
