All operating gambling operators in Massachusetts declined to participate in a roundtable organized by the Massachusetts Gambling Commission (MGC) to discuss player restrictions. The sole attendee was Justin Black from Bally’s Interactive, a licensed operator not yet active in the state.
BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, ESPN Bet, Fanatics Betting & Gaming, and FanDuel requested an executive session for the roundtable, but the MGC denied this request. Citing privacy concerns, the operators opted out of the meeting.
The commission members expressed their disappointment and frustration. Interim Chairman Jordan Maynard emphasized that the Massachusetts regulator is obliged to conduct public comment sessions per the open meeting law, despite the discomfort it might cause. He underscored the importance of honesty and transparency in these discussions.
