Myanmar military police conducted a raid on an illegal online gambling operation in the town of Tachileik on the Thai border, resulting in the arrest of 689 individuals.
The operation, conducted in collaboration with Thai authorities, targeted criminals operating the online gambling business. Those apprehended included 540 local residents, 148 Thai citizens, and one individual from China.
Authorities confiscated 400 computers, 270 smartphones, 170 motorcycles, and ten cars during the operation. Online gambling is often subject to strict regulations or outright prohibition in many Asian countries, leading to law enforcement crackdowns on illicit activities.
