Merkur Gaming Plans to Replace Former Sex Shop with Casino

Merkur Gaming, a prominent slot machine manufacturer and arcade operator, is considering opening a new casino at the location of a former sex shop. The site in question is on Abington Street in Northampton, where the Ann Summers store used to operate until its relocation in 2023.

Ann Summers, originally founded in 1971, is a British retailer with around 80 stores nationwide. The Abington Street location closed in June 2023 and was subsequently moved to the second floor of the Grosvenor Shopping Centre.

Merkur Gaming has proposed transforming the former sex shop into a casino. The operator currently manages more than 220 such establishments worldwide, with a notable presence in the United States. Adjacent to the former Ann Summers store, Merkur Gaming already operates a gaming hall. Furthermore, the acquisition of two nearby retail businesses will enable the gaming brand to significantly expand its footprint in the area.

This move reflects Merkur Gaming's strategy to enhance its presence in the UK market by leveraging prime locations and expanding its gaming offerings.
