NCPCR Raises Concerns Over Absence of Warnings for Children on Gambling Platforms

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in India has expressed worry about the absence of Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations for gambling apps and websites. In an appeal to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the NCPCR highlighted the lack of regulation, allowing children unrestricted access to gambling platforms.

A parallel concern was brought to light by the non-profit organization Society Against Gambling, which alerted the NCPCR to the surge in illegal gambling websites and apps in India. These platforms reportedly operate without proper oversight and lack stringent KYC protocols.

The appeal outlines the modus operandi of such websites, alleging that they actively encourage minors to engage in gaming activities through instant messengers, including platforms like Telegram. The NCPCR underscored the "predatory" nature of these tactics, emphasizing the immediate necessity for new regulations to govern gambling in the country and urgent measures to prevent the proliferation of gambling among the youth.
