The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB), a key regulatory body in the US gambling sector, has recently been the target of a cyberattack, that temporarily rendered its website inaccessible. The NGCB confirmed the incident, assuring that no sensitive user data was compromised.
The website, which contains public-facing information such as meeting agendas, gaming regulations, press releases, and board member biographies, was taken offline as a precaution. Essential details like gaming license information and financial records are securely stored on a separate, unaffected internal system.
Despite the cyberattack, the Nevada Gaming Commission continued its operations seamlessly, with its monthly meeting proceeding as scheduled. The NGCB is actively working on establishing a temporary website to ensure continuous access to important public information.
Last year, Caesars Entertainment experienced a significant breach where personal information of loyalty program members was stolen. Additionally, the online casino Stake.com fell victim to a hacking group, resulting in substantial cryptocurrency losses, raising concerns about cybersecurity measures in the gambling industry and resulting to multiple lawsuits that alleged insufficient protection of customer data.
