Manitoba plans to create new tribal casinos

The Prime Minister of the Canadian province of Manitoba, Wab Kinew, said that the authorities are ready to open many gambling houses run by indigenous peoples. According to him, he and his colleagues will discuss the idea of new casinos, although the government has not yet received specific proposals. This step will be a path towards economic reconciliation with the tribes.

The Prime Minister's announcement comes a day after Manitobans expressed interest in expanding gambling. The Conservative government of 2018 banned the opening of new gambling houses and the development of the industry in general.

“The province has grown significantly since then, so we made the decision to lift the pause while maintaining responsibility for liquor and lotteries,” Kinew said.

Manitoba is home to several indigenous Indian nations - the Cree, Ojibwe, Dene, Sioux and Assiniboine. In the USA and Canada, there is a common type of casino that is managed by a council of Indian tribes.
